Protecting Mountain Gorillas and Virunga

About Me

21 Oct 2008

I became an ICCN Ranger in 2006, following in the footsteps of my older brother who was also a Ranger at Virunga National Park. Two years earlier, my brother and two other Rangers went out on a routine patrol in the north of the park — and they never came back. It is likely that they were kidnapped or killed by the Nalu militia, who were very active in that area at the time. However, the mystery of what happened to them continues to this day.

I became a Ranger to continue my brother’s work. I go on patrols in the same areas that he did and every time I walk into the forest, I think of him. I know that the chances decrease every day, but I continue to hope to see him again one day.
